Cheryl Wong
Cheryl is currently pursuing a Master of Education in Counselling and Psychotherapy at the University of Toronto. She is committed to providing a culturally sensitive and anti-oppressive approach rooted in building authentic human connection—where clients feel heard, understood, and brave enough to pursue change. Cheryl hopes to explore what’s on her clients’ minds and help them gain clarity on what their authentic self looks like, and how they would like to show up for themselves and others.
Cheryl brings diverse experience as a researcher, crisis responder, and mental health volunteer supporting individuals from a variety of backgrounds. Through her own experience as a newcomer to Canada, she recognizes the importance of incorporating social context into therapy in the journey of discovering one’s authentic self. Cheryl believes in the power of connection—whether with family, friends, or a partner—as a valuable source of support through life’s challenges.
The therapeutic modalities that inform Cheryl’s approach include Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), mindfulness-based therapies, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Relational-Cultural Theory. Cheryl takes an open, honest approach to her work, often incorporating warmth and humour into the therapeutic process.
In her free time, Cheryl enjoys walking around the city, capturing its unique character through photography, or experimenting with new recipes and cooking delicious dishes from her latest culinary finds.
Cheryl can provide therapy in Cantonese and Mandarin if requested.
